More familiar faces this weekend, but there is a pretty big event going on as I type; the legendary Dakar Rally in South America, to be precise. The coverage for this rally on television is pretty weak, unsurprisingly, but the new NBC Sports Network (previously Versus) will be showing some action at 5pm today. You can visit the website for the Dakar Rally here and get more interactive information and footage. This weeks flick shows Dakar Stage 4 action from last year. Enjoy the weekend.

This is a holiday weekend, so as expected there are marathons as far as the DVR can see. Instead of a newer video, I found this classic BTCC clip from 90' on the same track as Monday's 2011 BTCC Round 4 airing, Oulton Park. Replace the Chevy Cruzes with some Sierra Cosworths on BBS. Mmmm.

Most of the stations have gone into repeat-a-thon holding patterns for the rest of December, but there are some goodies still to be enjoyed per usual. Please note that if you want to catch re-airings of this years F1 races, it appears SPEED will be doing so every Tuesday (give or take) at noon. Enjoy the weekend, and remember if you're ordering presents online you should do so before Monday. Humbug.

Another good weekend of this years motorport action, capped off by the championship deciding race in V8 Supercars. Last year in Sydney was a wet one, but only time will tell if the elements will play a role in deciding the victor. Porsche Super Cup highlights have made their way into the delayed airing mix, which will make the next couple months a bit more bearable.

The SPEED post-season replaying of the British, German and World Touring Car Championships has returned this week, and FIA GT1 racing will follow suit. Along with the regular shows that fill our dockets, a new special showcasing the US tribute to the legendary Mille Miglia race will air this Sunday at 1pm on SPEED. Enjoy your weekends.

The one and only 'DTM Enthusiast' put this video together quite a while back, but thankfully someone has hosted it again. This is some of the best footage of the legendary battles between the BMW E30M3 and one of the last Mercedez-Benz models to have a manual transmission, the 190E 16valve.

• Motorweek. Tuesday @ 8pm - 8:30pm (Discovery's HD Theater)

This freakishly warm weather in Maryland has got me in a great mood. I'm thinking about blowing money on my car again and that's always a good thing. Not for long term, but in the short term it's pretty damn awesome. In the meantime there's a bit of variety on the automotive entertainment front this weekend; more Top Gear of course, but also a marathon of Street Customs to setup the premier of the newest season of this series named Inside Street Customs at 9pm on Sunday. This doesn't check the motorsport box by any means, but about 70% of being an enthusiast is wrenching so building cars, regardless of style, is always relevant.

• Motorweek - SUV shootout (...awesome). Tuesday @ 8pm - 8:30pm (Discovery's HD Theater)

Well the touring car fun is just about over with the return of the NASCAR season; it was fun while it lasted. In the meantime there are a few other shows to check out, like the documentary on a racing team looking to redeem themselves after a failed outing during the last Rolex 24hrs of Daytona race. You can also find plenty of classic european car entertainment and a fresh episode of Top Gear.

Top Gear is finally being aired in current season, with a two week delay or so, on BBC America. I don't have it listed, but if you turn to BBC America at any point this weekend, you're 85% likely to see an episode of Top Gear from the past 6 seasons. The first episode from the current season, 16, airs on Monday @ 9pm.

Top Gear America wrapped, and word is it did well enough for a second season. While it's still taking me time to get used to it, I definitely think the show got better (video quality, chemistry, adventures) as episodes were cached. On a related note, the original Top Gear started it's 16th season in the UK last week. Go to Finalgear to keep up with the releases of rips. In other news, it looks like we can say hello to the first major motorsport event of 2011 with the 24 Hours of Daytona. I can almost see the cherry blossoms around the corner...almost.

More touring car madness this weekend, along with some great vintage action with the Goodwood and Monterey specials. I really enjoyed the Goodwood special from last week, and the Festival of speed is now added to my list of must see things in the near future. The Porsche Supercup special last week covered a round at one of my favorite race tracks of all time, Monaco. Oh yes.
