Upcoming Event: 2011 Baltimore Grand Prix

It's hard to put into words how excited I am that a major race event is coming to my own backyard. With last Springs' announcement of the Inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix, to take place as part of the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series Race Season, it's in fact happening and I can't wait. To get you up to speed, the City of Baltimore earned the right to host an IndyCar Series Race after the successful work of the Baltimore Racing Development (BRD) group. BRD, headed by President Jay Davidson, setup online petitions and other polling methods to get this race weekend approved over a year ago. Thankfully, local motorsport enthusiasts and Government officials have spoken, loudly might I add, and in result the Baltimore Grand Prix will take place this upcoming 2011 Labor Day weekend (Sept 2nd - 4th) in downtown Baltimore City.

This three day race weekend will obviously include IndyCar Series racing, but what some people may not know is that this event will double as one of the previously empty race slots for the 2011 American LeMans Series. Friday will be composed of qualifying for both ALMS and IndyCar Series races, Saturday will be the ALMS race and Sunday will be the IndyCar Series Race. Each evening there will be a concert with musical guests, yet to be announced. Long story short, this is a local motorsport lovers dream come true.

If you're in the Maryland area and always wanted to go to a truly upper-tier race event, don't walk, but run (with your fingers) to Baltimoregrandprix.com to find out more and look into what ticket packages work for you. Even if you don't stay the whole weekend, seat prices are affordable and the entire weekend has been designed to entertain the whole family. This is THE biggest mark on the ROTL calendar this year, so if you plan on going, start planning now.
